Strange problem with my bass setup

Sign in to disble this ad
Something really strange I noticed.. on my Warmoth fretless 5 gecko, I went to set it up again, and I noticed a strange problem.

Based on the position markers, when I set it up on the 12th fret, everything below it is pretty much correct, but as I get higher and higher up, it becomes sharper and sharper to the point that at my 24th fret, it's one whole semitone sharper than it should be. E.g. playing the G string at 24th fret becomes G#.

If I set it up to the 24th fret, then everything 12th fret and below goes off. It becomes flatter, e.g. playing the G at 12th fret is somewhere between G and F#.

Could this be a mistake on the position markers? I can't think of any other reason... please help if you know anything!

Edit: Anyway, I'm using TI jazz flats and I set my action high enough so it rings freely, but not very high... about 2-3mm or so. Also I've stretched the strings, quite sure they're seasoned. I switched to this set at least half a year ago.

loosen the string, move the saddle back, retune, check intonation again. repeat as necessary.

Be very consistent with your fingering technique. It sounds like you are centering your finger on the fretline.

Your finger should be just behind the line, with the edge of your flesh at the line.

Oh is that so? I used to intonate with finger just behind the line, but I read somewhere that I should center, so I did it and now I have this problem. Maybe that would help *goes off to intonate again*
