Strange Sounds

Sign in to disble this ad
I just recently took the neck off my Brice bass, too remove the nasty "nuke orange" color that Rondo Music puts on, and when I put the neck back on, i just strung up the D string, to see how it felt, and I noticed that every note I played past the 12 fret has a strange overtone, as if I'm playing two notes. Not sure what this is, but hopefully I can fix it fast.

It sounds like that acoustically or through the amp?

You only strung up the D string? if thats the case, of course it sounds wierd! string the whole thing up, and it should go away.

I'll start by doing that. If the sound persists, any suggestions?

Probably 'cos the pup is too near the string (s) - when you put the rest of the strings on the neck will bend slightly under the increased tension, the action will raise up and, as Bassslayer69 says, the double notes will disappear. If they don't, then jack the pup(s) down a little until they do.
