strap locks

alright, first let me say that I know this question has been asked a million times before so I apologize for asking again, but I do want to clarify something before I screw up my baby.

I purchased some strap locks for my Warwick Corvette. Needless to say the screw on the neck side is larger then the new screw. I have heard the proper/ easiest way to fix this is by taking tooth picks and wood glue and stuffing the hole. My question is doesn't that leave gaps and what not which would make it less solid to screw into? Also if you do use the toothpick method how do you trim the excess sticking out. Any help or suggestions you could give me would be great.

thanks

This is a basic shim job. You put toothpicks/glue or whatnot into the hole to make the hole smaller than originally. That way a screw can fit into the hole which has been stripped. The way that you trim the excess is simple...break the toothpicks off at the opening. Simple process.

Exact-o knife works great for trimming flush to the body.

also, this method is great, because if, for whatever reason, the straplock is ripped out, the toothpicks are damaged and not your bass.
