Which strap locks to use for a Stingray?

Sign in to disble this ad
I moved the strap locks from my fender bass to a new stingray i bought.

It seems the bolts from the stingray were bigger and they don't fit in those strap locks. I thought them strap locks were universal.

Even so I installed the smaller bolts into the stingray and one strap lock came off and almost drop my baby. big mistake.

what are good strap locks for a musicman stingray?

Does this work for all music man basses?

you could always just get some tooth picks/wood glue and fill the current hole then put your strap locks in

just take the rubber gromets off a couple of grolsch bottles and call it good. Pop them on the stock strap buttons over your strap and you're good to go.

If it's a new Stingray, you should be able to use the Ernie Ball Straplocks without any Modifications.

You have to use the screws that come with the straplocks, not the original screws that the bass strap pins came with. Usually the straplock screws are always larger. If the screws don't tighten snuggly and are stripped, then use a toothpick and wood glue, after the glue drys break off the rest of the toothpick sticking out of the hole and remount the straplocks.

Also I use Dunlop strap locks on all my basses as well, including the Stingray I used to own with no problems.

i just put dunlops on my sterling and pre EB Music man, use the screws (blots as you say) that come with the dunlops, just soap up the thread of the new srews a little bit and you should be fine.

Not really. The screws that come with Schaller's strap locks (the ones FMIC uses) are often smaller than most stock strap button screws. The shaft might be LONGER, but the diameter is generally noticably smaller, and the thread shoulder is MUCH smaller. That's the primary reason I went back to Dunlops.

I started with Dunlops in the late '70s (because they were the first) and jumped on the Schallers in the mid '80s. But after a few pulling out of customers' instruments, and having to use the toothpicks and glue on my basses (I managed a guitar store), I went back to Dunlops. MUCH better design in my estimation.

Get the Dunlop Dual Design and the button is big enough to actually work safely with a regular strap without the locks on it as well.
