Straplock Screws too Loose?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have noticed that this thread gets started very often and i am hoping someone might sticky this thread, as to cut down on the number of times per day a thread similar to this one pops up.

~Did you just buy straplocks for your bass?
~Are the screws for the straplocks smaller than the original screws for your bass?
~Does this cause annoying rattle and pose a risk of stripping the wood inside the holes and permanantly damaging your bass?
~Do you want a solution?

Here, its very easy:

Step 1 - Remove the original screws from your bass.
Step 2 - Coat one or two toothpicks in emlers glue and insert them into the hole where the screws were.
Step 3 - Wait 24 hours(you can probably skip this step with minimal problems, but lets be safe rather than sorry)
Step 4 - Trim off the ends of the toothpicks.
Step 5 - Screw in your straplock screws and install the straplocks, and you have sturdy screws and your strap is going nowhere.

Sticky anyone?

This is a trick that you can use on virtually any stripped wood screw around the house. The only caveat is that I have found it better to buy "quality" toothpicks that are made out of hardwood, as some things have come loose on me using the regular cheap ones - they compress, and over time the screw loosens - otherwise great tip! And I would agree it is a good thing to sticky.
