Straplock for thick straps

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a italia strap (which is a great strap btw). But it is pretty thick. I wanted to buy some straplocks to secure my bass better. Because i sling my bass pretty low the strap holes wear out a bit quicker and i already had my bass almost fall twice. But i heard a lot of straplocks are to short to accept such thick leather straps. So does anybody know which straplocks are long enough for thick straps?

I use dunlop ones, and just leave the washer out of the setup to fit in the retainer clip with Italia straps. Works like a charm, and have had no problems in the past 2 years.

I use Schaller. I too have a thick strap and they work great.

+1 for Schaller. My Levy's is thick and it works great. Can be a bit of a challenge to thread at times.

Strap manufacturers are killing me with the thick straps, as same thing, can't get a straplok in it easy. I'm a long time Dunlop guy, and there are some straps I just can't put 'em on. I'm getting ready to go back to regular straps with the Dunlop plastic lock you put on over the button.

Oh, and clearly its a Canadian conspiracy (Levy's is a Canuck company...)

Try the Ernie Ball. I use them on all my straps. They attach to the strap like the schaller, but with a longer threaded section.

i use dunlops and they don't like a thick strap. not a problem, though - I simply pound the opening flat and the dunlops fit on there very snugly

Done that myself. I also use my X-acto blade to round-out the strap hole / slit transition....if that makes any sense! The Schallers are very nice, as well, provided you dab a little blue Loctite on the threads before securing the nut.

Pound Flat, then Enlarge Hole

I, too, use Dunlops on all my basses, and it hasn't been easy installing them on thick leather straps (or two plies of a folded Comfort Strapp); pounding the leather until it's thinner works. But, sometimes flattening the leather can make the hole in the strap is too small.

After flattening, enlarge the hole; it's much easier to install strap locks.
