String Action Problem

Just got a bass online used and i love it but one thing is killing me.
i have adjusted everything on the bass and with the saddles at their lowest position, the action is too high. Not talking a hair or so but quite alot.

Sounds like the neck relief is off. Neck relief is a term used to measure the bend, or bow of the neck. There are good stickies in the beginning of this section to help you along. Are you familiar with doing an instrument set up?

Shim only if the action is still too high after adjusting the neck relief

Does it have a high-mass bridge like a BadAss, Gotoh, or Hipshot?

If so, shim...

Normally a 1/2" long shim, running the width of the pocket, placed at the rear of the pocket, will resolve issues like that.

A business card or other card stock should be thick enough.

All the best, Bob

Yes it had a no name high mass bridge.
Will that honestly fix an issue with something so slim?

I had to do two business cards as a shim recently and now the saddles are set pretty high to get low action. It is amazing what a little shimming can do.

You don't shim the entire pocket, just a portion closest to the bridge. This adds a slight angle to the neck, which lowers the strings toward the body.

Understanding the development of height by adding angle will help you with this.

Possibly. If raising the saddles doesn't give you enough..
