String Buzz - Bridge Saddles, Trus Rods, and Bears Oh My!

Sign in to disble this ad
ok so heres whats going on, basically my Stingray 4 has a string buzzing problem. It was at 2/32" action which felt really nice but buzzed allot. so I took it to a luthier who said that the reason im buzzing is because my neck was to straight, and action was too low, so he put some relief in the neck. I then realized that the action was too high for me, it was getting close to 4/32" so I lowered the bridge saddles to try to get it down to about 3/32" the factory setting, and low and behold the buzzing returns. now, I know you can have a stingray 4 at 3/32" without buzzing because A: that's the factory spec for it, and B: I have a stingray 5 set to this.

What strings buzz when fretted where? No joy from FAQs, Stickies, or searches for setup? Playing style?

I won't ask why a luthier let you leave with a bass that wasn't set up right for you, nor if you are going back.

Measure relief at the 9th fret with the 1st & last frets held down. 0.010" to 0.015" is nice. How straight was & is it? Feeler gauge set & capo are handy tools for this.
