String buzz/nut problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an ltd b-55 and the G string buzzes with plucked. The knuts the problem I know. I don't exactly know why it is doing that but when ever i put my finger over the string on the nut it will stop, is there anything i can do for a quick fixer-upper? And does any one know WHY this would have happened and what the real problem is and as well if no quick fix i need to send it in to the shop to get fixed right?

Thanks in advance

It could be that the slot is to big for the nut.

If I understand your description, it sounds like the nut slot is cut too deep. The easiest quick fix is to build the slot up w/thin apps of super glue. After applying a dab of glue and allowing to dry cometely 2 or 3 times, simply reinstall the string and allow it to compress the layers. This may do the trick. If not, you'll need to either shim up the treble side of the nut, or at worst, replace the nut altogether. If I misread your problem, sorry.

I've had this problem on my strings sometimes on my Jazz bass, usually on the A and E strings. You know what the problem was? Not enough downforce on the nut - I would press behind or on the nut and the problem would go away.

Restring the string in question and hold the part of the string that extends past the nut as low down as possible and wrap the rest of the string around the tuning peg above this part, this holding it in place. It should fix it right up.
