String Buzz on A-string only?

Sign in to disble this ad
hi
just switched to a heavy gauge set of strings. all was fine until a couple of days later the A-string starts buzzing.
It's not the same type of buzz as fret buzz, the action is well clear of the strings and the string does not touch the frets when it oscilates. It's not the amp and its only on the A-string. every fret on the A string buzzes. It does not buzz however when i do a very very very soft note.
My bass is a warwick thumb 4 BO.
is it possible a truss rod problem?
Thanks

it may be becaws the string guage is to big you should try to step it down a size. if you dont want to do that you could take it to your local guitar shop and get the nut sanded to fit also a truss rod check up is never a bad thing.

^ Yeah - check your neck relief after switching gauges. Also maybe the action height is borderline a tad too low.

The A string may be "sitaring"--look at the witness point at the saddle, make sure it's a clean break.

I've got the same issue on my EBMM Stingray 4. But I only -really- notice it on the 10th fret of the A string. Does anyone know what this might indicate?

I took it to a local music store to get it set up properly, but I think he was a cowboy and didn't really know what he was doing.

Your issue sounds like a high fret. I would seek a second opinion with top notch repair guy. They are worth the money in situations like this.

I would think it's your saddle or your nut. Sounds like the string is too close to the fingerboard. Have you tried raising the saddle or the nut? Are they still using the adjust a nut with individual string height adjustment?
