Exactly right. You can't have the strings the same distance from each fret all the way down the neck, because the string doesn't vibrate the same amount all the way down its length. It moves farther the closer you get to the middle of the string (at the 12th fret). What you are wanting to do is physically impossible, it defies the laws of physics.
