String imprints on fretboard

Sign in to disble this ad
About 20 minutes ago i noticed a string imprint on the fretboard under the 8th fret the E string of my Fender P . I probably got it from letting my bass sit face forward on something..oh wells. Anyone else have these marks? How did you incur them?

I take it you mean an imprint on the wood part of the fretboard.
I wouldn't sweat it. I look at my bass as a tool.
Tools that get used ultimately pick up a little wear and tear.
Have you seen Andy Hess's P Bass?

Bumping an old topic.

I noticed some imprints on the frets under my MIA's E string.. should I be concerned? They're mostly superficial, but the 6th fret's imprints are a tiny bit deeper than the others. I think this is from playing in D...

Xyphere,

Do you mean imprints on the metal frets? Or on the wooden fingerboard?

Either way, it's completely normal (though imprints on the wooden fingerboard are more rare on a fretted instrument).

I would't worry about it until the divits in the frets start to cause buzz, which usually takes years and years of playing, unless you consistently play eight hours a day.

Again, these imprints are completely normal. Any bass or guitar will eventually need fret-dressings, refrets and eventaully even a new fretboard (after enough refrets, if the instrument exists for that long).

Don't sweat it...

Let me know if you have more questions.

The more prominent imprint is in the wooden fretboard. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell it get there. It isn't even that noticeable unless you're looking at the fretboard with the right light on it...

My Squier VM fretless has got 'em already- it doesn't bother me too much. It's not like it's ebony or anything, wouldn't be too bad to replace if it got that bad.
