String issue..won't fit...

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Warwick Corvette 5 string. I just put new strings on and noticed that the low B won't quite fit into the first part of the Warwick two piece bridge(the part without the saddles) The string seems to be jammed pretty well in the slot and the guy who had this bass last also had the B string just jammed in there.

Am I risking anything by having the bass strung up that way? The ball is still in the slot but the actual windings aren't all the way down in the slot.

Sorry if this post was confusing, it's late.

Worst you can do is use a file and take a bit out of the slot in the bridge, no big deal.

Agreed. sounds like the bridge wasn't slotted for that gauge.

just take that tailpiece block off the bass, mount it in a padded vise and carefully drill through the bottom of the slot so that the overwrap of a .130 B will fit. i have to do it all the time on these basses.

Yes this is an issue warwick acknowledges and suggests (warwick suggests this) that one get a metal file and widen the slot so diff B strings will fit. This was their response to me when I contacted them about the overly narrow slot for B string on the corvette I had bought few years ago. So while I was at it widened the E string slot some too with metal file. Warwick has no intention of making their bridge string slots any wider and purchaser should widen them themself. What cracked me up was that the bridge wouldnt even accomadate their own (warwick brand) std gauge B strings.

Spector never has this problem.
