If not, you could try a shim on the back side of the tuner (lowering the head a bit), if the drop does not need to be too drastic. |

Problem is most likely either bad winding or new nut time.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: Philly Area | | | It's a bit more common on fender style basses on the A string. It is helpful, as alluded to above, to do a few extra wraps on the A string so the angle from the nut to the tuner becomes a bit steeper.

-John | Absolutely. I think BP mag referred to the phenomenon as 'Fenderitis'
I swapped out my G&L L2K standard string tree for a Hipshot three-string tree, which is a cheap & reliable fix. On my Fender Precisions, I just wind extra turns onto the A as I'm maintaining the stock appearance.

Since the tapered post of G&L tuners tends to keep the string windings close to the headstock, I've never even had that issue or had to wind much string on the posts, unlike on my Fenders where I use at least 3 full windings on the E and A string posts.

| | | | The quick fix I did on one of my basses when the nut actually snapped was just flip it over and solder holes in it( holding the iron sideways). Not sure If thats the problem though |
