| String Through Ferrules

When changing the strings on my '08 MIA Jazz for the first time one of the thru body string ferrules fell out. I wasn't concerned at the time as I was going to string thru the body anyway and I figured the string would hold it in place. I have considered the next time I change out the strings of top loading and I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for assuring that the ferrules won't fall out and get lost. Glue them in, or take them all out and store them in a safe place? (not really fond of that second idea). Or, as the only reason I might go top load is because a particular brand of string might not be suitable for string thru (how likely is that?) I should just keep it strung thru. I am operating under the assumption that ther is no inherent advantage in either string thru or top load.
What do you think?
