String-Thru Question

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm looking into building a bass, and I want to use a Hipshot A-style bridge, and use the string-thru feature of the bridge.

My question is as follows: I want to use the brass version of the bridge for sustain purposes, however ferrules don't come in brass as far as I know, and even if they do I doubt they make black ones. Since the ferrules are not going to be brass, is that going to make having a brass bridge useless, or will I still reap the benefits of having it?

It won't affect the brass bridge at all. The improved sustain comes from the extra weight of the brass bridge. More mass = more inertia = more sustain. It's all about where the strings meet the bridge saddles. The anchor point of the ball ends has nothing to do with it.
