String too thick for nut...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone,

I was wandering what if u want to put on thicker set of new strings on a bass but they don't fit in the nut? Happened to me when I replaced .045 G-string by .050. I had to widen the nut a knife! How do you guys do it?

I would hate to mess with the nut of an expensive bass like a Stingray or Fender Deluxe.

Thanx for your time...

Nice to know their are other Who lovers on Talkbass!

The Who and John Entwistle are the reason I picked up the bass. One of the greatest performers in music history. They are true legends!

You just need a small needle file - if you buy or borrow Jaco's instructional video you can see him filing the nut slots at the beginning, over the titles and checking the intonation at the 1st to 3rd frets on his "pickup" bass.
