string tree

Sign in to disble this ad
I just took off the string tree of my SX and the screw isnt holding the tree in anymore. Whenever the tension gets to a certain point, it will pop out. I considered the fact of adding a longer screw to compensate for the whole but I don't know if that will cause damage. Another thing I thought of was to inject epoxy or something like that into the whole to fill it and reset it. The problem I see with that is that I am playing out tomorrow night. If it is necessary I'm going to bring my backup if that is the best choice.

Thanks.

Fill the screw hole with a flat toothpick and some fast drying Elmer's Carpenter's or Titebond yellow glue and in a couple of hours you should be able to re-insert the screw and have it hold. I fix stripped out wood screw holes like that all of the time. Pretty standard method. Actually, the longer you can let the glue dry, the better but with either one of those types of glue, I've gotten away with a couple of hours. )-(

Break off a piece of the end of a round toothpick to the depth of the screwhole, apply a bit of white or wood glue (not a lot) to the piece and insert it into the hole, wide end down, and reattach the string tree with the original screw. The tree should be on good and tight right away, but you may want to let it sit for a half-hour before you restring it, to give the glue time to setup. Easy and quick fix.
