String volume out of wack

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, I just restrung my 5-string (E-C) with DRs and a D'addario C-string, and now the C-string is at a much higher volume than the other strings. I lowered the pickup on the treble side as far as they would go, but with little result. Suggestions?

Mess with your EQ. Do you have too much treble? Just like if you have too much bass, your thicker strings will be louder than your thinner ones. Other than that, I don't know. Maybe you should take it to a shop and ask.

if you remove your pickups, the individual polepieces may be adjustable from the bottom, then you could move your C polepiece much lower than just lowering the pickup would allow.

It's not my EQ because i checked it with different settings and everything and play high notes on other strings but the c- string is still much louder. It might also be that the c-string is a different material thats more senstive? I think its an 18 gauge as compared to i think a 25 or 30 previously ( this was an accident haha). Also its much smoother than the other strings if thats makes any difference.

Not at all. Previously it was strung with ernie balls (45-65-80-100) with a DR C-string (25 or 30). Currently it is strung with DR taperwounds (45-65-85-105) which i really dont like because where I play the strings are still tapering so they're going today. The C-string is and 18 guage DA.

i had no other way of cheaply getting a c-string and the one i have on there is from a store 1.5 hours away. I think this week I'm gonna order 4 or 5 C-strings of the brand and guage I was using before, because it sound pretty good. The one I have on there only sounds good if I'm slapping because it has a really metallic, biting, percussive tone. Those taperwound DRs really sounded disgusitng compared to the ernie balls, which are much growlier.
