Strings buzz after I re-stringed my bass

Ok, I dont know if this is the proper part of the forum for this question. If not feel free to move it to where it belongs.

So, yesterday I was changing strings on my basses. This is something I have done before without complications. This time it didnt work out very well. When I had removed the old strings from my ibanez and put on the new G string I noticed how it was really close to the fretboard and it did make an awful lot of fret noise when I tried to play it.

I have no idea how this happened. It hasnt happened before. I have tried to raise the action but it doesnt seem to work at all. From what I can see it doesnt seem like the neck has been bent either. Has anyone else had the same problem or does anyone know what may be done to fix this?

Does it still buzz after you get all of the strings on it? I wouldn't be concerned until you've done that. No doubt that there simply isn't enough tension on the neck with only a G string on it.

EDIT: Ah, Joshua beat me to it.

I never take all the strings off first. I just do one string at a time. That way the tension close to the the same on the neck through out the process. Check after all the new strings are on to see if it goes away. Then I would also be concerned that your neck flexes that much.

On my p-bass I will forget to the put the G and the D string under the little washer and the strings will buzz until I remember to do that. I am not sure what bass you are using or if it has one of the those string guides up by the tuners, but I throw it out for your consideration.

I will try to string it up and let it adjust for a few hours.

If further adjustments are needed and you want to know what kind of bass it to give me more precis instructions it is a Ibanez EDB 605.

Did the nut crack, so that the nut no longer holds the string above the fretboard?

Is the string sitting properly on the bridge saddle?

Did the bridge saddle "fall down"? Not sure about Ibanez, but with Fenders, some folks find that the allen-wrench screws strip and the action "falls down" on a string.

It seems to work nicely now when its all stringed up and has had some time to adjust.

I have almost always removed all the strings at once but I never experienced any problems in regards to that so thats why I didnt know what to do this time around.

Anyway thanks for all the help, Im glad it wasnt a big deal so that I had to pay for someone to fix it for me.

Go Joshua!

I'd have "been all over" that truss-rod if that happened to me! Glad I read this!
