Stubborn Tuner

I was changing strings on my vintage Ric and the G string tuner felt hard to turn and made a slight noise. Nothing appeared different to look at it. Is this a minor problem I can fix myself or do I need to take this in?

If any of the gears are accessible, drop some lubricating oil onto the gears (not WD40, that's not a lubricator).

Also try loosening the screw at the head of the machine head (the bit you turn). If that fails new machine heads are pretty cheap and easy to fit.
