sudden low string volume caused by new strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
i searched and couldn't find an answer, and then couldn't decide if this should go in strings or setup.

i have passive musicman sub, it had a set of the peacock blue drs for a while and i got a free set of the jamerson size labella flatwounds. as soon as i put them on the volume level of my g string plummeted. i've never had a problem with that before this set of strings. is it possible that my flatwound g string is dead?

Yes, strings of various materials and guages can have volume changes. I have recently tested a few different types along with a custom set not found in stores yet...all had differences on volume, not to mention the obvious tonal differences.

Coated strings were always quiter in output. Stainless Steel were always the loudest.

have you found a difference between individual strings? my E, A, and D are the same volume as the previous strings, only the G is quieter
