Surface Finisher for Warwicks

I just a got a used Warwick and was wondering what to do when applying the finish. Do I do everyone single spec of the bass? Do I do the neck? Is it okay if I get some on the strings? Is it okay if I get some on the pickups?
What do I wax, what dont I?
