Surround for Jazz Pickup?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm currently refurbishing a P Bass which has had a J Pickup added. Unfortunately the routing that was carried out is quite bad and I was trying to think of a bass that has a 'surround' for a Jazz type pickup that I could use and which would hide the bad routing?

Does anyone know of any basses that have such a surround?

Another option I was thinking of was to buy a Jazz Pickguard and cut it down to suit.

do an ebay search with "j bass trim ring" There's some on there now, and check the ebay store of the seller (they might have different colors). If I was doing that i'd round off the corners a bit with a file, I think it'd look better.

Thanks for that, I've just ordered a standard Acrylic mirror finish one off e-bay ($2.00).

The routing I have to conceal is a bit extensive as it was originally routed for P Bass pickups. The trims on e-bay are adequate for most purposes however as they are not very wide I feel I will have to fill some of the void in first!

I'll see how it looks, but I I might still end up having to buy a Jazz Pickguard and cut it down, it depends how good (or bad) a job I do of filling the hole!

Thanks again for the advice.

I did ended up re-forming the routing for the Jazz pickup using woodfiller and a lot of time and patience.

Here's the result;

Photo isn't too clear and the uploading has made the edges of the routing appear to be a bit rough but it does look very good in real life.

Thanks lowtide.

Yes, with us lefties the cabling is never long enough to fit the pickups showing the logos in their correct position.

My Sandberg is the same.
