Question swap bridge?

Sign in to disble this ad
hi there,I've got 75' reishue j-bass mia.i love it execpt that i have constant problems with the bridge screws coming loose.i've put lock tight(blue) on the height screws, but now the intonation screws will loosten and fall out....i've replaced one spring with a stronger one that stayed but crap,i paid almost 2 grand for the thing so i'm feeling that i should'nt be having to mess with this.so if someone could suggest an upgrade hopefully with the same screw holes,i would apprecate it.i have gotten pretty good at keeping a tiny screwdriver in my pocket an doing quick adjustments inbetween songs, but crap!!!,thanks,

Yes replace that silly thing. The gotoh 201 bridges are diff improvement are very inexpensive upgrade. For fancier the hipshot are nice but diff get a 4 or 5 hole version like your bass has. Dont order hipshots thru musiciansfriend, they send the 3 hole version. Which while adaquete aint gonna be as good as 4 or 5 screws to mount bridge imo. Still, Id go with the gotah unless unless you want fast top load bridge for strings.

i vote for the '60s reissue saddles, which are threaded-rod steel; they'll let you spread out the strings properly to line up between the jazz pickup magnets for a more even attack, which in turn causes the outer saddles to get pulled in towards the inner ones, holding everything together. this reduces or eliminates the sliding around and the screws moving, and gives you better sustain and tone in the bargain.

plus, they're cheap and will fit right on to your existing bridge plate.

(the 201 is a nice piece and will fit right on, but it's too narrow to line up perfectly with jazz pickups. a minor thing, but i hear a difference, especially if the pickups are closer to the strings.)
