Question Switching it up

Sign in to disble this ad
So I recently had to borrow my teacher's bass because both of mine were in the shop and he leant me a fretless bass. I'm an upright player first so the fretless felt so much more natural and note this was the very first time I had ever played on a fretless. The bass I love and use more often at the time is my Jay Turser violin body bass and was wondering if it's possible to get a fretless neck put on it (I wouldn't do it myself) and I don't want the frets on the current neck taken out for fear of unfixable mistakes. It doesn't have the standard bolt on neck with and I can't tell how you'd take it off. Any thoughts on this matter? And what price am I looking at for getting such a thing done?

The current Jay Turser catalog shows the violin bass (JTB-2B) as a set neck. Swapping this neck would cost more than the value of the guitar. So would having the frets professionally removed and the kerfs filled and the then fingerboard trued.

ok thanks, that's what I thought, then I think I'll just take my Ibanez Gio and get a fretless put on that, since that is bolt on

if that ibanez doesn't have the same neck pocket dimensions as standard fender basses (and they usually don't), then that would probably be equally impossible.

your best bet is to just get a fretless bass.
