So I bought a set of Ernie Ball Roundwounds and they were the regular cheaper 22 dollar set of strings, but better than the stock ones. So I put on all my strings one at a time, taking off the old one and putting the new one on starting with the G string. So I get to my E, its just a regular 105 gauge string, and when I was lacing it through the bridge, it would not fit at the end of the string where it is round thicker, before the ball. So right now its on, its tight, but the E is sticking out half an inch out of the bridge on the backside. I am a little disappointed because I wanted to get an even thicker string because I tune it to C#. Anyways, do I find another size string set? End up replacing the bridge, or is there something I can do make that hole larger? Any help would be appreciated. The bass is the sjb-75 3cts.

You can find these files at just about any hardware store. I got mine at Harbor Freight. It came in a set with about a dozen different files.

I only had to remove a little bit of material to get the string to pass through. I was careful to keep the hole round and not leave any burrs.
I've used these files to make *very* minor adjustments to both guitar and bass nuts, as well as removing sharp fret ends, but I don't recommend it because you can easily over do it. I certainly wouldn't want to try cutting a nut from a blank with these.
