SX Essex truss rod nut

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone attempted to remove the truss rod nut from an SX or Essex neck? I recently wanted to transplant the nut from an old-headstock SX to a Squier Pro-Tone, but could not for the life of me remove it. I ended up pulling one off of a Squier Affinity, and it worked like a charm.

Just wondering... has anyone had any success pulling the nut off of an SX?

Anybody?

My problem is that when I loosen the nut, it works well for a few turns, then starts feeling like it's tightening up again. Could be the nut rubbing up against the wood as it's coming out, but I'm not sure. I'm just nervous about forcing it.

Same goes for my Squier CV 50's P, I became afraid and stopped. I wanted to put a washer in. I'm thinking it's just rough threads, anyone?

My SX has a dual action truss rod and the nut does not remove. Turn it one way and it creates back bow turn it the other and you get forward bow.

I don't think Squier uses a dual way truss rod but I owned a Squire Affinity 5 string for about a week and while trying to get the neck straight I backed the truss rod all the way off till the nut stopped. I didn't force it any further but I thought it was strange that it didn't just come off.

I think in the case of the SX, it is indeed a dual-action truss rod. With the Squier nut that wouldn't come out, it was probably the wood getting in the way. It's easy to cram the nut in there, but not so easy to coax it out.
