well i have 2 sx's(?) lol.....i have a 5er and a regular acoustic. now i dont know if im allowed to put this in here, most likely not.....  but im gonna try.....on the acoustic how do i go about lowering the action on it? i have no idea at alll, im sure someone can help me or pm with info or somthing on how to do it... thanks guys/gals...sry if ive made an inconvienience or broken any rules |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: boonville,new york...and proud | | | yea i would have to say this would be my first i guess setup that i actually make significant changes. and yea it is electric/acoustic, i read a review by someone that said they set it up and it played super, cuz his action was too high too... i mean i can play with it this high, ive gotten use to it, but man would i looooove it if it were a whole bunch lower. guess ill have to snag some new strings and give this a shot, any advice on how to file it down as well as taking the nut off, new to this so....the nut is glued in rite? suppose i file too much down? or get fret buzzing after, i have none as it is at all, which is nice, but may when its lowered....idk ne help is much appreciated, and im saving to get a diesel so a pro setup isnt in the future for me rite now |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: boonville,new york...and proud | | well...lol...not quite, then neck is fairly straight as i can see it...i also just did a sad setup of my bass....i knew that some frets were a bit off, its playable still but i need to either A get that one pro done, or actually try and apply wut ive read in levelling frets, that may turn into a nightmare  ....any way, no i dont really know how to measure neck relief alls i think is that i just do need to file down the saddle and possible the nut i guess if those two do go hand in hand. |

| | | | Adjust the saddle by taking material off the bottom, not the top. Before you start, take measurements and mark the saddle. The adjustment to the saddle is twice the difference you would like to see at the twelfth fret. Leave the curve on the top alone. The best way do it is to apply some PSA backed abrasive to a very flat surface and sanding it off. Apply even pressure to the saddle and reverse the saddle in your hand every X number of strokes to insure that it remains flat and parallel to the original, now non-existent, saddle bottom. |

| | | | If the relief is correct then the only other adjustment available on an acoustic is lowering the saddle, unless it has a bolt-on neck. BTW, if you cut the saddle too short it can be shimmed back up. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: boonville,new york...and proud | | | sounds good...ill have to try this tomorrow or somtime in the week.....i just hope i dont run into unlevel frets...if so....how do i recrown(wut is that anyway) the frets, i have a fairly decent plan of attack as far as leveling them goes.....just the recrowning part, also need to do this with my bass...ugghh....this will by my first actualy setup and fix if i actually do this just dont want to screw thigns up...and its not bolt on...one more thing....the nut is glued correct? wut kinda glue is used? |
