Not much you haven't seen before. The usual SX + threaded inserts + Nordstrand pickups.
The beginning:
First thing I did was the threaded inserts mod. It was a quick and dirty job done at my grandparents' house and I don't have any pics of it. I'm sorry.
However, I do have a pic of what the neck plate looks like with mismatched screws:
Franken-bass!
Then SX's "custom handmade" goodness:
I wound up taking a pair of pliars to the wood that was sticking out and just ripped it out. I also did this to a few other little knobs of wood sticking out.
Then came the shielding:
Upgraded the wiring with CTS 250k pots and an orange drop .47 cap. I decided to go with a linear taper pot just for the heck of it:
Although the CTS pots wouldn't fit the holes in the pickguard, so I had to drill those out (and by that I mean my grandpa did):
I replaced the stock bridge with a Gotoh 201, to prevent side to side movement of the saddles:
The stock SX knobs didn't fit the CTS pots, so I used a pair of Ibanez knobs I had lying around:
Then I took it to the shop and had them replace the nut and strings and give a fret level and setup, here's the end results:
This has been a fun project and when everything was said and done I wound up with a great bass. It has its flaws but it sounds great and plays great. I'm happy with it. With the exception of the nordies (which cost more than the bass itself...) nothing really cost too much, I think the end price was under $300 (definitely under $400, that much I know).
Also, I hope the number of pics I posted makes up for their low quality. My cell phone is the only camera I have.
