SX PBG2 Pirate Bass finish, how is it done?

My title says it all, i don't know if you've seen these basses and i cant post pictures, but they have this black finish that you can see the wood grain really well. Just curious how they do if it, if it's a stain or something? Thanks for the info

Don't prime it, and don't sand the grain down between coats.

is that at all similar to how warwick stains their basses? like the Burgundy Red finish on a corvette or corvette double buck?

Don't prime it, no grain filler also. Get a body with a very open grain pattern.
