SX SJB-62 4+1 5 String Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought the above mentioned bass about one month ago. I changed up the strings to flats after considering that I had never played flats before and thought this guitar might be cool with them... well it may be cool to others, but I just hated playing flats.

I put a set of Roto Sounds round wounds last night, huge improvement to my ears over the flats, but I'm finding that the E and B strings are significantly duller than the upper register strings.
I have tried moving the pick ups up and down to get a better tone, but it just doesn't seem to add or take away on those two lower strings.
So, does anyone else have this bass and have similar problems? Any suggestions or should I be seriously considering replacing both pick ups? And, if so, what would you good folks suggest?
Thanks
fishheadjoe

My advice, get a new nut.

Helps a lot if you replace that crappy plastic one with a high quality nut,

but you have to get it custom made because of it being a five string.
I did with my SX and its AMAZING.

Okay, amazing for less than $200.
