Just got a new SX in the mail yesterday. Thought the action was a little high, I measured .205" from the top of the 17th fret to the bottom of the E string Does anybody know the fretboard radius for this bass? I did a search but did'nt see anything.

I don't know for sure what the radius is. Just by feel I would have to say its in the 7 to 8 inch range. The 62 Fender was 7.25".

More like 12" or so.

What does the radius have to do with high action ?

Exactly.

Mine feels closer to a Fender-ish 9.5...

Rondo Music emailed me back and said my bass has a 12" radius. As far as needed to know, this is my first bass, I was trying to follow the instructions for setup that I found in the "Hardware, setup & repair" section of this board, This was the link I found:

http://www.fender.com/support/basses.php

In the section where it talks about action it has a different height for a different radius neck, Am I reading this wrong? 2.4mm on bass side and 2mm on treble side at the 17th fret. If I am doing something wrong I would appreceiate a nuge in the right direction.

Thanks,
Mark

I didn't check the link, but those dimensions are independant of neck radius.

The OP has a point, ya know? Fender does specify a different string height per radius. I've been using that 9.5 spec for SO long (on everything), that I've never given any thought to the others.

At least he's paying attention...

The Fender site lists a difference of 0.4 mm for the 7.25 radius only. All other radii share a common dimension.

That's some serious nit-picking. 0.4 mm is four sheets of standard paper.

I could never play a bass with an action that low.
