SX staying in tune?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a stock SX and it seems that the strings aren't staying in tune. I don't know if its just me but when I tune them correct after about 5 minutes they go a bit flat and the pitch sounds off.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm no expert, but it's possible that the strings are warming up after a few minutes of playtime and going flat from that.

are the strings new? If so this is very common. Other thing to check are the tuner heads, are they too loose? If they are try tightening 'em a bit.

Do you ever tune down or are you in the habit of always tuning up?

I was going to say, you need to be sure everything is tightened down and stable. This includes tuners, the entire bridge assembly and saddles, the neck bolted tightly to the body, etc. Everything. Anything that is even slightly loose and shifting will de-tune the instrument.

And new strings always take a couple of hours playing time before they're fully stretched and stable.
