| Tailpiece vibration on Gretsch Broadkaster

I got a new Gretsch Broadkaster hollowbody electric bass guitar fairly recently (model G6119B) (resembles the Tennessean 6-string). It has a trapeze tailpiece that makes an annoying vibration sound when I play the E string. You can't hear it through the amp, but when I practice at low volumes in the evening it can be heard. I can stop it by putting my hand on the tailpiece, but that leaves me one hand short for playing. What's a good remedy for this vibration sound? I was thinking of wrapping a piece of rubber (like an eraser) with some felt and wedging it between the tailpiece and the arched top of the bass, but I was afraid that would reduce the vibration of the top to the detriment of the sound. I also thought maybe you could put something like a cello mute between adjoining strings in the nonplayng area of the strings behind the bridge and in front of the tailpiece. Has any of you run into this issue or have an idea of how do eliminate the tailpiece vibration sound? |
