Talk me into it. Or out of it. All I need is a body.....

Long story short: One of the first basses I ever bought (circa 1986-ish) was a "modified" yet still somewhat stock 1970 Telecaster bass. Someone had routed out the original pickup cutout and stuck in some BIG, honkin' humbucker. They also stripped the original finish and put on a horrible clear coat. Before I really knew better I took to sanding the clear coat off, along with alot of wood

The body was toast, but I kept all of the parts. I've been dragging them around like luggage since and am at the point where I'd like to build the parts collection back into a working Tele bass.

Original bodies are scarce to non-existent, it seems - and when they do pop up I usually miss them by days.

Below are the parts. All I need is a body and a pickup:

Says "23SEP70 C"

Can y'all recommend a place that can make original configuration Tele Bass bodies?? Seems that all of the repro bodies are for more modern necks that are curved at the heel, which this neck is not.....

Is it even worth doing this?

An enquiring, somewhat crazed, mind would like to know.....

Regards - Ed

Is it worth doing? Are you kidding!

You have all the best parts with the perfect natural wear.
Contact a few of the relic bass builders on TB to get them to age a new body to match.

I'd love to be in your shoes!

That is an excellent idea that never even occurred to me! Thanks!

Where do I find these relic builders? Is there a sub-forum where they congregate? And do they make bodies, as well as relic them?

There are several. One highly regarded one off the top of my head is Dan Atkinson, who I've contacted about a bass for me possibly. Nash also comes to mind. TB member Dark Horse does great work, but I think he's done doing custom work for people...
