Are there pick guards for a Squier V5?
Hi people, i just bought a Squier Deluxe V 5 string jazz bass and i'd like to put a pick guard on it since it is getting some minor marks on its finish. I'm starting to play slap style and my right hand fingernails are leaving some track just between the neck pickup and the fretboard.
This bass does not come with a pick guard.
My bass is exactly the one pictured here:
it's got 4 knobs and a slap switch which might make it difficult to find one that fits straight
Any ideas are welcome
ps.- i need to keep the fingernails as i'm a classic guitar player :bassist:
Gonna have to go custom.
You know, looking back at this, there's a possibility that a pickguard from another Squier or Fender J5 might work with perhaps some finagling.
The trouble is going to be getting a hold of a replacement Squier J5 pickguard that you could return if it's a definite no-go. Sourcing a Fender part from an auth'd seller that accepts returns shouldn't be a problem, though.
How about transparent self-adhesive foil?
It should give enough protection and can be removed any time.
That is a very good looking bass you have there. So I wonder what is worst:
1) Getting minor scratches in the clear coat
2) Altering the clean design with a pickguard (which will also require new screw holes, i.e. non-reversible modification).
My option would be to cut my nails short and leave it clean.
IF you still decide on a pickguard, my vote would go to a three-ply black with white edge. somewhat like this P-bass:

Contact your authorized Fender dealer for availability.
Or search on ebay. I searched for "jazz bass 5 string pickguard" and found these among others:
All standard jazz bass pickguards are made to mate with a control plate for the controls, which means that you may opt for a pickguard without a control plate.
