Personally I like my P's with a guard so it wouldn't affect anything for me

I'm really considering the cork idea. My bass has some great grain, and I'd love to go nekkid.
The hole is for CNC purposes. There are a couple models without it, but I forget which ones. |

| | | | agreed! that is my one complaint about american standard jazz basses, the hole as well as the big ugly rout around the neck pickup, both of which rule out the cool pickguardless look.
