Out of curiosity and knowledge for knowledge's sake, what type of things would crack a nut?

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Apr 2011 Location: Oracle, Arizona | | | It wouldn't be easy however IF the nut design were very thin and the string were bent down from the nut to the string tree or tuning peg; it may happen from a quite wide B or E if the saddle cut was wide or deep enough to not have enough strength to support the pressure or a fast tuning, etc. The common idea that a brass unit would increase sustain is inconclusive but it certainly wouldn't crack like bone if too little support remained.
Of course there is always impact.....you drop your instrument and it hits on the nut....-=bad scene=-
