What's your take on strings through the body or not?
Just bought an inexpensive Cort 5 string to practice on a 5and having it minted out with lots of goodies. Opted for a thru the body. Use DR's

Your thoughts?

For most cases, there is no difference in tone or behavior of the strings. It's just one of those things like body shape that can be part of a bass's design without necessarily having any predictable effect on tone. A few people have reported hearing a tiny difference when switching from thru-body to top-load and back, with one specific bass of theirs, but honestly it's not something to spend much thought on.

Not. If you have a qaulity high mass bridge theres no tone or sustain improvement to be had from string thru, just a feel of slightly tighter strings. Nothing else in my experience. If you have a thin bent metal fender style bridge that offers string thru choice, Id rather repalce the bridge with a better one myself. rather then useing the string thru option. String thru also often results in problems getting strings to fit right so that you dont have wrong part of string over the nut.

Me, neither - I have a few basses that can be strung both ways, and have tried both ways with them - and noticed no discernable difference...

The only reason I have my Jazz strung-thru is so I don't lose the ferrules.

Just dab a little bit of glue on their outside & put them back in so they dont fall out when not being used. Yes it is annoying them falling out.

Yeah, I could do that, but, since it doesn't affect the bass's sound in any way whichever way I have it strung, why bother?

Mechanically, a string-thru should add pressure to the contact points (screws) at the saddles. More pressure, should equal more sound transfer. If there is an improvement, my experience has been, I can't hear it, but at my age, acute hearing is not my long suit. I like the Fender Deluxe string thru bridge and I do use the option.
