Thunderbird Neck Dive

Sign in to disble this ad
This topic has probably been beaten to death, but...

I just bought an Epi Thunderbird and want to cure the neck dive. I know that I can relocate the strap button for this, but don't know where to move it. Can someone elaborate. Pics would be great!

Thanks,

Hi I have no pictures but 2 ways
1 Either take out 1 screw top front that holds the neck on & reinstall with the strap button OR drill a hole in the neck plate & install there.
2 do what I did install strap button behind the neck on neck pocket
If you hold the bass on the floor & look down at the back you see what I mean

Hi.

You're absolutely correct, the topic has been beaten to death .

I don't think there's too many Epi-bird threads that doesn't have at least one pic or an explanation how to do it. Search is Your friend .

Back in the day, I played a 63 model. At first, I hated the neck dive, but as time went on, I learned to love it, and to use it to my advantage. Kinda nice sometime to let fall into your hand, right as a lick is coming. Learn to use it!Kinda like the force!!

One method from the OLD T-Bird forum:

http://www.lysator.liu.se/~wizkid/mu...underbird_mod/

In case you've others or want options, here's my preference:

on all TBirds

Watch out for this(only happened on one Epi out of 3). Fixed with Crazy Glue gel.
If it starts, you'll notice your action getting higher, etc. while you're playing. STOP after that song(if at a show) and check. It possibly could "launch"(been there, done that on a 60's T-Bird when screws pulled loose. See pic directly above bottom left for how I cured that one for good).

Enjoy your T-Bird and prepare for the "Why don't you play a Fender?" or similar buzzing in your ears. Heck with 'em. Play what YOU like.

my solution...and question

I didn't move the top strap button to the back of the neck plate, my dad mentioned his gibson blackbird(when he still had it) had better balance and i moved the bottom strap button more towards the left of the wing. like the gibson blackbird check out the pics of it on google, mine balances better.

btw, has anybody ever tried to move the top strap button close to the centre but still remaining on the wing of the bass? Cuz the elists and classic IV have a slight difference on the placement for the top strap pin.
