Tired of pointy fret ends on Ultra-cheap (<$100 basses)??

those ultra-cheap chinese basses getting you down? cutting your fingers on the pointy fret ends? or are you just looking to improve the feel a bit.

well, here's a quick and dirty technique to make your cheap chinese special feel quit a bit nicer...

please, only attempt this on a cheap bass that has a rosewood board.

tools: 400 grit sandpaper

action: take the sandpaper and wrap a bit of it around your pointer and middle fingers...

hold the sand paper at a 30-45 and to the edge of the fretboard.

lightly sand the edge of your board up and down the length until you've knocked off just a SMIDGE (official measurement) from the edge of the board...

repeat procedure for the other edge...

clean any debris with a 3M pad and an old t-shirt...apply a little lemon oil (if desired)...wipe down again...and

WOILA!....5 minutes to smooth edges...

Haven't had this issue on any of my cheapo SX or my TBC... I had one fret shift on my ESP though. I did excatly this, but eventaully went the whole way to 1000 grit paper. Works like a charm. A smidge is just about right, too.

I have a really fine, long file that I use. It works great.

I hand it to a long haired scruffy guy named Jim in the
best setup shop around. Comes back like butter everytime.

I guess that doesn't qualify as cheapo, though.

Whenever I play my sx you can tell from my index finger... I don't really feel it while playing, just notice afterwards. I guess I'll have to try this out.
