Toronto & GTA fret levelling question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

Whom do you prefer to do your fret levels: the Twelfth Fret or Capsule Music? One place is cheaper than the other however that doesn't mean a thing. I need a jazz levelled and dressed and was wondering who would do a better job. Any and all help is mucho appreciated.

Thanks so much.

p.s. is there anybody else you would recommend or should I send it to the states and have it Plek'd?

I haven't tried Capsule Music but when I lived in Toronto just a few blocks from the Twelfth Fret, I used them a number of times. They always did very good work for me. Usually I could handle fret levelling myself but a couple times turned it over to them.

I haven't played a bass that's been Plek'd so I don't know if it's worth the cost.

Thanks 62bass,

The 12th fret guy seemed to know what he was talking about, at least over the phone. The guy at Capsule seemed a little unsure of himself. Anyone else have any experience with repair shops in and around southwestern ontario?

I wonder why someone in Toronto would take a bass to a guitar shop when there's a bass specialist in town.

The Plek process is the most overrated and misunderstood thing to hit guitar repair/building ever. I almost NEVER see a decent Plek job. I'm sure it can be done, but it's a TOOL like any other, and does not guarantee decent results.

Well, you know how Monster Cable is the bestest cable ever in the history of the world? Plek is just like that.

My buddy has an expensive German machine connected to a computer, but his BWM doesn't improve his bass playability at all!

Somebody is making a lot of money on those plek machines. For $150,000 you can get yourself two nice brand new 3-axis HAAS CNC mills, that's enough to start your own machine shop.
