| yeah, those earlier mexi jazzes used these bogus pickups that were the wrong size, making any upgrade a PITA.
they still had decent chunks of wood for the neck and body, so if you like the bass, you could get better pickups in there (after a little woodwork), which would improve the sound, give you a hum-canceling middle setting, and allow aftermarket pickguards to fit right on.
