Tremelo problem.

Just thought I'd ask this here before I actually did something.

I have a 2410 Kahler tremelo bridge. It has a little hooked edge on the backside of the cam the holds the strings. On the top of the cam is point (think a corner) that the strings sits on top of. I keep breaking strings. It looks like all the strings break at this point. I was thinking if I rounded that point so it wasn't so sharp I wouldn't break so many strings.

Thoughts on this?

Hmm. No responses. That seems pretty typical with my posts on this site.

Bump anyway. Not that I expect anybody to respond.

You didn't really give enough info about your bass to give you a solid answer, but I had a similar problem when I bought a bass with a Kahler installed. Turns out that the bridge is built to work with Fenders the best, and if you have a bass with a larger pitch than the Fender, it puts a severe angle on the string and causes breakage. My solution was to install a piece of pickguard material under the bridge to raise it. Sounds exactly the same and I haven't broken a string since.

Yes, the strings break at the exact same point. It isn't that the spot is sharp but that its at enough of an angle to dig into the strings when ever the cam is moved.
I can try and post pics later today.

looks like what he did would probably work.

Hansahol- What did you use to do that? Just a file?

Thanks

Yep
just a regular flatfile with a rounded edge.
I am thinking of having Kahler custom build me a cam(that's what the pictured part is called)with that smooth radius.
