Trouble stringing with d tuner

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone ever have an issue putting new strings on your bass with a hipshot d tuner.

I have a stingray, i've used this d tuner for a year or so. i've changed strings on it a few times always managed to get the E string on without too much hassle.

For some reason this time i can't get the tuner to tighten far enough before it just kind of snaps lose and the string loses all tension. and the 2 times i did get it relatively tight the string was way above the nut because the post on those things are unnecessarily long.

any suggestions.

Thanks

Are you winding the string on the post from bottom to top? If you end up with the string above the nut, that's what it sounds like. . . you need to wind from top to bottom.
