Truss rod adjustment and bridge.

Well the weather has changed.. and everytime it does the neck on one of my basses wants to bow.. This year it's my Aria ZZB.

Normally I take em to a buddy of mine to do the work.. But I think it's time I started doing this on my own.

I've been reading up on adjusting the rod and so on. But the question I've never really asked.. Just how much of a gap should there be between the strings going up and down the neck.. I play with a slight bow, not a flatty.. and I've never really thought about this before..

Can anyone give me some input?

Edit. Also with the gap.. I know it's pretty small on an electric.. but I couldn't find any info on basses.. I know our big fat strings get a lot more vibrations ..

go to fender.com and check out their setuo guide, i believe they say something like .012 from the top of the 8th fret. i get it to around there, and then i play all the way up the fretboard and if it doesnt buzz anywhere i leave it alone, if it buzzes everywhere i raise the strings. if it buzzes in the first few frets i loosen the truss rod, and if it buzzes higher than the 12th fret i tighten it. theresa sticky with a link to garry willis's sight which has all of the above information in it.

Thanks. I've been working with the buzzing and just kinda gauging it from there. Trying to get that perfect balance is tricky... I shall work on it..!

just dont turn the truss rod too much when youre doing the fine adhustment. some say no more than a quarter turn a day but i dont go by that, i let it sit maybe an hour and then come back to it, you can do it however you feel comfortable.
