truss rod nut

Sign in to disble this ad

I recently bought an ibanez btb used. It has a pretty good setup already but i need to give it a little bit of releif in the neck. Well low and behold the nut is chewed the hell up. I have an old neck with the same style nut that i took off. Can you just replace that nut and be fine? How can you get a stripped nut off of the truss rod?
Tools. advivce. anything?

are you talking about the tapered allen wrench? i saw the other tool they have but thats for when the nut and rod break. its just the net on top thats striped the the treads on the truss rod itself.

Sometimes you can pop them loose by using a "flat-blade" screwdriver with a tapered end that will fit in the allen hole. Tap it in till you get some bite on it-then flex the neck back slightly to take the tension off of the truss-rod (strings removed).
Gently back it out.

You could also use a dremel to (very carefully) cut groove for a flat head screwdriver in the top of the nut.

or

File/dremel the edges flat so that you can use a pair of pliers or a smaller socket to remove the nut.
