| | | | Truss Rod or Saddle adjustment?
Sign in to disble this ad
I picked up a 6 string bass guitar recently. I have noticed that when I pluck the strings forcefully, the 7th-10th fret on the D string and the 12th-15th fret on the E string create a buzz. None of the other strings show this behavior, not even if plucked open.
I have not adjusted anything since I have bought the bass.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

| | | | Usually if the buzzing is up on the higher frets it needs the saddles adjusted higher. If at the lower frets, the neck could use some relief.
Might need both. |

Might need both. | Thanks madmatt, as long as it's not the truss rod I'm much relieved.

Spend the 50-100 bucks and have it properly set up. Play it before you leave so he can adjust it to your liking - usually at no charge.
You may find out that those particular frets are not level, btw.

Go to someone you know and trust & verify the need for adjustment. Frankly, virtually any Bass can be made to buzz. |

It will have an attendant side effect of changing the action. But, it's NOT how you adjust action. Read the sticky 251 provides a link too (I don't have the patience to repeatedly post the link to that). Typical adjustment process is to get the nut right, adjust the neck, via the truss rod, to the desired relief, then adjust the action so it works with that neck setting.
