Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone know the size of the washer I would use for a 62 RI Fender p bass?

Is this something I can get at home depot or lowes?

It feels like I can't turn it anymore..e...

RE spacers on truss rod

hi,

I had the same problem with a Fender neck...Sorry but I don't know the size you need...I found out the hard way that fender uses different thread stock on the end of their truss rods. But what I did was take the neck off and take it to the hardware store (lowes or anywhere) and find the exact fit. I found out from a fender repair shop that this is a commmon problem (the nut pulling in ) and fender's fix is to put washers in there, unless you can convince em to replace the neck!!! I've had to do this 3 times with my geddy lee !

Hope this helps??

My advice would be take the neck off, and take the truss rod nut with you to the shop and
find the spacer that match exactly to the diameter of the original nut.
Such spacers you could find in any hardware store like you mentioned.

Thanks. There's just a bit of bow where I can't get the action low enough.

That's the way I did it. You may need 3 washers, depending how much slack you need to take up.

So is this normal with fenders then?

It seems to be a common problem with older Fenders although other basses can have the same problem.

I think that the source is the wood under the nut compresses over time and,as well, the neck shrinks slightly so you run out of adjustment room.

It helps to rig up a clamping arrangement to hold the neck in a slight backbow when you add the washers and replace the nut. And while you're at it lubricate the threads on the truss rod. A dab of paste wax on a Q tip works well for me and doesn't make a mess.
